[ONLINE] Debate on the freedom of using symbols in the academic space

We would like to invite members of the academic community of the University of Silesia to participate in the debate on the freedom of using symbols in the academic space. The online meeting starts on 2 December at 5 PM.

The event will be divided into two parts. The first part will consist in the discussion between invited staff and students of the University of Silesia. In the second part, all interested members of the academic community of the University of Silesia will be allowed to ask questions and present their point of view. The debate will be complemented with legal opinions prepared by scholars representing different disciplines of law.

The meeting will be held under the patronage of Student and Doctoral Student Ombudsperson, and Ombudsperson for Academic Rights and Values. The debate is intended to provide recommendations for the Rector and the Senate, concerning the regulation of these issues at our University.

All individuals interested in asking questions in the second part of the debate can access to the meeting via MS Teams. You can participate in the event if you have an accounts on MS Teams registered with the University of Silesia. Details concerning the activation of MSTeams (Office 365) account can be found after logging onto USOS system in „For Everyone/Office 365 Account” tab.

Rules of active participation in the second part of the debate:

  • if you want to ask questions during the meeting, you can do it by using the „Raise Your Hand” option,
  • the debate moderator will let all subsequent volunteers speak,
  • you have 1 minute to ask your question,
  • you have 3 minutes to present your point of view,
  • you have 3 minutes to answer and comment on other people’s point of view,
  • link for members of the academic community of the University of Silesia to enable active participation in the second part of the event: teams.microsoft.com.

The legal opinions will be prepared by:

  • Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Professor of the University of Silesia – Faculty of Law and Administration University of Silesia, Vice-Rector for Domestic and International Cooperation University of Silesia,
  • Dr Artur Biłgorajski – Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia,
  • Prof. Barbara Mikołajczyk – Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia.

The debate participants include:

  • Assoc. Prof. Krzysztof Łęcki, Professor of the University of Silesia – Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia,
  • Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Sapota, Professor of the University of Silesia – Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia,
  • Rev. Prof. Jan Słomka – Faculty of Theology at the University of Silesia,
  • Małgorzata Poszwa – Chair of the Student Government,
  • Miłosz Pilarek – Chair of the University Council of Student Government.
