Programme Conference: Towards New Polish Studies

24.03.2023 - 14:43, update 28.03.2023 - 11:56
Editors: AJS

The Programme Conference: Towards New Polish Studies will take place from 17 to 18 April 2023 at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia. Representatives of communities involved in Polish studies from the majority of national and foreign scientific institutions accepted the invitations extended by three rectors: Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań), Prof. Jacek Popiel (Jagiellonian University), and Prof. Ryszard Koziołek (the University of Silesia in Katowice). The main aim of the two-day meeting will be the substantive and organisational reflection on the newly-created scientific discipline (which the scientific community insisted upon for years) — Polish studies. The programme council under the leadership of Prof. Andrzej Skrendo agreed on a slightly different conference format — they decided to forgo paper presentations in favour of an open discussion, which will be split into six panels and will touch upon the following issues:

  1. Prospects of Polish studies as a discipline (new connections with literary studies and linguistics and other disciplines and the search for new synergy rules; Polish studies and democracy).
  2. Subjects of research in Polish studies (basic research — editions, lexicographical works; ancient and contemporary literature; comparative studies; Polish studies and philological tradition; Polish and its language varieties; methods and theories used in Polish studies).
  3. Polish studies infrastructure (evaluation, grants, publishing houses, journals, calls for proposals, the place of Polish studies in the university structures).
  4. Polish teacher training studies with a future. Programme development of Polish studies (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral).
  5. Digital Polish studies. Digital tools in the work of a Polish studies expert. Digitalisation. Research networks, new direction of research, digitalisation.
  6. Internationalisation of Polish studies (glottodidactics, translation studies, global Polish studies). The role of Polish studies in the internationalisation of Polish science.

The organisers invite the entire humanities community as well as teachers, culture animators, and people connected with non-official education — to participate in the discussion taking place during the event. The effects of this programme meeting will be the recommendations developed by the community, which could become a basis for further actions of people establishing this new discipline within the structures of Polish science.

The up-to-date information is available on the conference webpage knp.us.edu.pl.

Participation in the event is free-of-charge, but due to the limited number of seats, prior registration using the form is required.
