On 19 October 2022, there will be a meeting ‘A good space for science’ within the Metropolis of Ideas series organised by the Metropolis GZM and Gazeta Wyborcza daily. The event will address the transformation of the Rawa and plans for its restoration.

For a long time, the Rawa has been rather scaring people away than inviting them to spend time by its banks. However, for the last few months, intensive work to transform this place has been underway to make the Rawa a clean place that attracts people. The recent actions conducted next to the USil Rectorate and the Faculty of Social Sciences within urban prototyping are great examples of these actions.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday 19 October and starts at 2.30 p.m. with a quick tour by Paweł Jaworski, an urbanist, who is going to present changes introduced in the vicinity of the university campus. The short walk starts from the USil Rectorate at ul. Bankowa.

Additionally, at 3.30 p.m. in the CINiBA (Centre for Scientific Information and Academic Library), there will be a talk between experts on the transformation of the space by the university and the collaboration of the University with the Metropolis GZM and the City of Katowice. The meeting will also touch upon the project of the Network Science Centre and the Green Science Zone.

The event will also feature the champions of the European City of Science 2024 – Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice and Anna Budzanowska, PhD, the Plenipotentiary for the European City of Science 2024 and Aneta Moczkowska, the Plenipotentiary of the Rector for the Science Zone. Other guests at the meeting: Kazimierz Karolczak, the Chair of the Management Board of Metropolis GZM and Prof. Grzegorz Hańderek, the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.
