The topic of the 12th edition of the Scientific Premiere Stage: Science Talk Show will be water. Together with our guest, Prof. Andrzej Woźnica from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, we will discuss the condition of Polish rivers, lakes, and other reservoirs. We will also talk about a certain ambitious research expedition.

Water is the source of life for all living organisms; nothing can live without it. However, the continuously growing population along with galloping urbanisation and rapid climate changes contribute to pollution of rivers, lakes, groundwater, and may lead to a thorough deficit of this life-crucial liquid. These issues are examined by Prof. Andrzej Woźnica, a specialist in biochemistry and environmental protection specialist. One of the main passions of our guest are problems related to the management of the environment of water areas. He participates in numerous projects focused on the condition of the water. Along with his team, he developed an Automatic Biodetector of General Toxicity of Waters, a device for monitoring water quality.

On 18-31 July, Prof. Woźnica will take part in an extraordinary operation under the “Czysta Wisła? WHY NOT” project, i.e. science and research expedition from Vistula sources to its estuary. The event realised by the Why Not? Foundation and the University of Silesia Silesian Water Centre, and its goal is to examine the condition of the queen of Polish rivers. The expedition will include kayaks and research vessels (including the unique UŚKA II), which will go with Vistula main-stream, and a hot air balloon. During the expedition, researchers will make multi-parameter measurements and take samples for laboratory tests. The results of the operation will be a complex study on the quality of Vistula water and the air around from its sources to Gdańsk.

More about this unusual expedition on 15 July (Tuesday) at 6 p.m. The event will be held online. The host will be Marta Paluch from Radio eM.

We would like to remind you that the previous meetings are available on the University of Silesia YouTube Channel.
