The Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library in Katowice (ul. Bankowa 11a) will host a meeting with Prof. Krzysztof Jarosz, one of the translators of the book The Years by Annie Ernaux, this year’s Nobel Prize winner in literature. The event will take place on 31 January at 5 p.m.

Annie Ernaux has also written works such as A Man’s Place, L’Autre fille (The Other Girl), and A Woman’s Story. In the last of these publications, she referred to her own creative process: ‘It’s not a biography and obviously not a novel either, maybe something on the borderline between literature, sociology, and history. It was necessary for my mother, born into a dominated environment that she wanted to get out of, to become a story so that I could feel less alone and artificial in the dominant world of words and ideas that I had moved into, as she wanted me to’.

A literary lecture combined with a sociological debate entitled ‘Annie Ernaux: autobio-socjo-grafia…’ (Annie Ernaux: autobio-socio-graphy…) will be held as part of the Socio-Kato series.
