Scientists associated with University of Silesia in Katowice have developed new derivatives of triapine and the method for obtaining them. These compounds are characterised by interesting anti-cancer properties, because they block the key stage of DNA synthesis, and therefore suspend the replication of cancer cells.

The chemists properly modified the structure of triapine, thanks to which they obtained compounds which can be applied particularly in the therapy of colorectal cancers. The solution has been covered by patent protection.

The authors of the invention are scientists associated with the Faculty of Science and Technology: Prof. Eng. Jarosław Polański, Dr Marta Rejmund, Dr Eng. Kamila Gajcy, Dr Monika Pyrkosz-Bulska, Assoc. Prof. Anna Mrozek-Wilczkiewicz, Professor of the University of Silesia, Dr Katarzyna Malarz And Prof. Robert Musioł.
