\u201cThomas Jefferson: The Head and Heart of the Intellectual Slaveowner\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The lecture is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, an iconic figure in the history and culture of the USA, father of the United States Declaration of Independence, whose democratic views contrast with the fact that he owned slaves. Prof. Matteson raises this controversy in his seminar, setting Jefferson in the context of a complex network of biographical and cultural factors determining the shape of the ethical system of an 18th century American intellectual.<\/p>\n

The seminars are mainly addressed to students and doctoral students of language studies, history, culture studies and law. The seminars will be conducted remotely on the Zoom platform of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Participation in meeting does not require prior registration.<\/p>\n
