\u201cThe Slaveholding Jurisprudence of North Carolina Chief Justice Thomas Ruffin\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

This lecture, built around the controversial rulings of Thomas Ruffin, a 19th century judge of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, is dedicated to the relations between slavery and law. Prof. Mateson reveals the mechanisms of legal enslavement of a human being, at the same time raising the problem of the definition of humanity, which has not always been obvious, as it turns out.<\/p>\n
