The Observatory of Urban and Metropolitan Processes and the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia are organising an international scientific conference “Metropolitan Prospects for a Better Urban Future \u2013 Ideas, Inhabitants, Institutions”, which will be held on 10 February 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference is planned as an event which includes meetings and face-to-face discussions. Due to the pandemic and sanitary regulations, the meeting will be held in a hybrid form. The Speakers will participate in a stationary event, while other participants can join the conference remotely, via the Zoom platform. The link to the meeting will be sent to people who correctly fill in the registration form.<\/span><\/p>\n

Topic of the conference<\/h2>\n

The thematic scope of the conference can be described as 3 times \u201ci\u201d: ideas, inhabitants, institutions<\/em>. It will include the following issues:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • metropolitan areas in theoretical terms: concepts, ideas, theories, prospects for the future<\/span>,<\/li>\n
  • metropolitan areas as complex social systems: practices, activities (grass-roots), participation, social innovations<\/span>,<\/li>\n
  • metropolitan areas in the institutional approach: regulations, competences, management, policies<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Keynote speakers will include experts from abroad<\/span>:<\/p>\n

    • Prof. Mariona Tom\u00e0s Forn\u00e9s (Barcelona, Spain)<\/span>,<\/li>\n
    • Prof. Eric Champagne (Ottawa, Canada)<\/span>,<\/li>\n
    • Prof. Christophe Chabrot (Lyon, France)<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The conference received funding as part of the “Social Responsibility of Science” programme of the Minister of Education and Science.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The event is covered by the Honorary Patronage of the President of Katowice, Marcin Krupa, and the Honorary Patronage of the Rector of the University of Silesia in Katowice.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Participation in the conference is free.<\/p>\n
