The Interuniversity Inauguration of the Academic Year 2024\/2025 in the European City of Science 2024 \u2013 one of the most important events in the entire academic year \u2013 will take place on 27 September this year. The special guest of the event will be Prof. Norman Davies, who will give a lecture entitled \u2018Knowledge and ignorance: does the West understand everything?\u2019 (lecture in Polish). The event programme will also include a concert with pieces composed by Stanis\u0142aw Moniuszko and Antonin Dvorak.<\/p>\n
Everyone is welcome to attend! If you would like to listen to Professor Norman Davies\u2018 lecture and take part in a unique concert at NOSPR, please register via the registration form (forms are available in Polish<\/a> and English<\/a>).<\/p>\n Events related to the celebration of the new academic year will last all day. Numerous attractions are also planned for the Katowice Market Square, and Radio Nowy \u015awiat will broadcast live from the spinPLACE building. Professor Davies has been awarded the CMG in 2001 for \u2018services to history\u2019, and has collected several Polish distinctions including the Order of Merit. Norman Davies is a regular broadcaster and commentator. He has been a visiting professor at Columbia, McGill, Hokkaido, Stanford, Harvard, Adelaide, ANU, and Cambridge. From 2000 \u2013 2006 he was a Supernumerary Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford and in 2006-2008 a Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall and Peterhouse, Cambridge.
