On 12 October 2024, the University of Silesia in Katowice opens its laboratories and workshop studios to once again show the power of science. As part of the ECSK 2024 celebrations, public universities organise Researchers’ Night celebration under the slogan \u2018Silesian Power of Scientists\u2019. Events planned on this occasion by the University of Silesia will start at 5 p.m. in four cities: Katowice, Cieszyn, Sosnowiec and Chorz\u00f3w. The programme includes free of charge events such as exhibitions, outdoor games, shows, workshops and lectures for all age groups. Science enthusiasts will be able to choose from 75 activities at 13 University of Silesia campus locations.<\/p>\n
In Katowice<\/strong>, biologists will invite participants to a microbiological safari and a demonstration of plant survival techniques. At the Faculty of Law and Administration you will be able to take part in a crime game, see the collections of the law library, take part in a lecture on animal rights and participate in forensic workshops. The youngest guests will be able to visit the forest lawyer\u2019s office of Ms and Mr Bear. Moreover, the Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski Film School at the University of Silesia invites you to a screening of short fiction and documentary films, and the Faculty of Science and Technology will host living-lab workshops and classes on encryption and graphs. Researchers from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities will talk about the Medici, the medieval scriptorium, lies and manipulations of politicians, and strengthening your creativity.<\/p>\n Sosnowiec<\/strong> invites you to geological workshops and shows prepared by IT specialists, including the Retro Computers exhibition, Hackers Escape Room, and workshops using 3D printers. Young people will also be able to take part in, among others, LEGO Mindstorms workshops.<\/p>\n In Cieszyn<\/strong>, activities related to the Researchers’ Night will take place at the headquarters of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Science. In the university buildings, you will be able to participate in art workshops and fusing activities, in the \u2018Superheroes Film Night\u2019 show, mini concerts and choreography workshops.<\/p>\n The Faculty of Science and Technology in Chorz\u00f3w<\/strong> invites you to stands concerning engineering professions, implants and materials of the future, as well as workshops on acoustics, artificial intelligence, intelligent materials, numerical simulations and many others topics.<\/p>\n Participation in all activities is completely free, but registration is required for some of them.<\/p>\n A detailed programme, along with registration information, is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Researchers’ Night in the European City of Science 2024 is a popular science event carried out as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. Activities are also carried out by other universities of the Academic Consortium Katowice City of Science: Silesian University of Technology, University of Economics in Katowice, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Academy of Physical Education in Katowice and Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.<\/p>\n \n
