Barbara Tokarska-Guzik<\/span><\/p>\n Project-implementing unit:<\/strong> Faculty of Natural Sciences<\/span><\/p>\n Project partner:<\/strong> Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University<\/span><\/p>\n The GEN-REYN project addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding Reynoutria invasions at the EU’s eastern border. Unlike Western Europe, Ukraine exhibits a high R. sachalinensis \/ R. japonica ratio, creating an active hybridization zone of the species with emergence of highly invasive fertile hybrids.<\/span><\/p>\n Aims & Methods:<\/strong> Collaborating with the Uni Silesia (Poland) and CABI (UK), Uni Chernivtsi team will integrate population genomics with a unique “Paired Living Lab”: two adjacent Chernivtsi cemeteries with contrasting management (mechanical vs. chemical). We will apply multi-level sequencing (Illumina amplicon \/ Illumina ddRAD \/ Nanopore targeted) and reproductive biology research to assess hybrid richness and constitution, as well as reproductive strategy shifts.<\/span><\/p>\n Significance & Outcomes:<\/strong> This “Research-to-Action” model provides the first genomic map of the East-West invasion corridor and develops management protocols for heritage sites.
