This year, the official gala for the Silesian Scientific Award organised as part of the 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE was held on 18 March 2023.<\/p>\n
Out of 40 nominees, 10 winners were selected in the following categories: Employee, Doctoral Student, Mayor\u2019s Award, and the best Doctoral Student (award funded by the Metropolis GZM).<\/p>\n
Jan P. Matuszy\u0144ski, PhD from the Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice won in the Employee category. Krystyna Doktorowicz, PhD, DLitt, Dean of the Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski Film School collected the statuette on his behalf.<\/p>\n
Jan P. Matuszy\u0144ski, PhD, is an award-winning director of many feature and documentary films. His artistic achievements earned him wide international recognition. The film Leave no Traces<\/em>, which tells the story of Grzegorz Przemyek being beaten by police officers in 1983, has become a Polish candidate for the 2022 Academy Awards. Jan P. Matuszy\u0144ski\u2019s The Last Family <\/em>received the Polish Film Award \u2018Eagle\u2019 in the discovery of the year category and Golden Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival. The film tells the story of the Beksi\u0144ski family \u2014 the painter and his journalist and radio presenter son.<\/p>\n The laureates in the Employee category received financial prizes of PLN 12,000, as well as a statuette designed by Katarzyna Pyka, PhD, Assoc. Prof. from the Faculty of Art and Educational Science of the University of Silesia.
