Geographer, geomorphologist, professor at the University of Wroc\u0142aw and Rector of the Jagiellonian University (1964\u20131972). From 1960, he was a regular member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the German National Academy of Natural Sciences Leopoldina, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the International Geographical Union. He conducted research in Spitsbergen, the Alps, Brazil and China. He received an honorary doctorate degree from several Universities, including those of Jena, Kyiv, Bratislava, the German National Academy of Natural Sciences Leopoldina and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.<\/p>\n
