Scientists from the University of Silesia in Katowice have developed a system to analyse the fencer\u2019s level of training. The research involved a fencer from the University Sports Association at the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice.<\/p>\n

The designed system can be used for assessing the level of fencer\u2019s fitness and their aptitude to practise this sport. This invention, covered by patent protection, measures the fencer\u2019s response time to the tasks programmed by the coach, as well as allows to analyse their concentration level, among other things. These parameters are stored in the device memory.<\/p>\n

The system does not require any spade modification, whereas a thrust is awarded in the same way as during a fencing competition. Based on the obtained results, coaches will be able to mofiy the training programmes, so as to accelerate the process of achieving proper fitness by their trainees.<\/p>\n

Fencers can also carry out a set of fencing exercises without the coach\u2019s supervision. Not only does the device allow to set the training programme in advance, but also records the data to which the coach has access on their computer. On this basis the coach evaluates the results of training and fencer\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

The following individuals took part in work on the invention: scientists from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Silesia in Katowice \u2013 Prof. Piotr Porwik, Director of the Institute of Computer Science, Dr Eng. Tomasz Orczyk and Marcin Lewandowski Msc, as well as Damian Merkel, MSc, fencer representing AZS AWF Katowice, fencing coach, referee from the Polish Fencing Federation and ex-member of the Polish National Junior Team.<\/p>\n
