Prof. Janusz Janeczek, Rector of the University of Silesia in 2002-2008, has been appointed Head of the Council for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection at the National Atomic Energy Agency by the Minister of Climate and Environment for the second time. The term of the Council lasts four years.<\/p>\n
Prof. Janusz Janeczek \u2013 geologist, specialist in the field of geological aspects of radioactive waste storage, mineralogy of atmospheric dust and pegmatites, Rector of the University of Silesia in 2002\u22122008. He was the Head of the Department of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrography at the University of Silesia, Vice-Chair of the Regional Conference of Rectors of Universities, as well as Vice-Chair of the Conference of Rectors of Universities in Poland, Chair of the Conference of Rectors of Silesian Universities, and Chair of the Council of the National Science Centre. In 2016 he was granted the Pro Scientia et Arte university award.<\/p>\n
Council for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection is an advisory and consultative body operating at the Chair of National Atomic Energy Agency. The duties of the Council include issuing opinions on construction permits, start-up, exploitation and liquidation of nuclear facilities, as well as legal acts, and organisational and technical recommendations prepared by the Chair of National Atomic Energy Agency. Moreover, the Council may independently submit initiatives on the improvement of operations of nuclear supervision bodies.<\/p>\n
