The Polish Patent Office (UPRP) has published the report for 2020, which includes statistics about intellectual property protection in Poland as well as initiatives and actions for supporting innovation and dissemination of knowledge in this field.<\/p>\n
The Patent Office received a total of 35,641 national and international applications. The number of exclusive rights granted in 2020 equals 26,422. The protection covers inventions, utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, and topographies of integrated circuits.<\/p>\n
In the world and domestic rankings, the University of Silesia took 13th place with a total of 27 patents. On the other hand, in the ranking of classical universities, the University of Silesia took 1st place.<\/p>\n
For many years our University has been at the forefront of non-technical universities in Poland regarding the number of patent applications and industrial property rights, especially patents for inventions. In 2019, the University of Silesia received 29 patents granted by the Office, and in 2018 there were 35 patents. Scientists connected with the University of Silesia in Katowice are the creators and co-creators of over 600 items of industrial property: inventions, utility models, trademarks, and industrial designs. They are in close cooperation with the University of Silesia\u2019s Office of Patent Attorneys and annually submit numerous innovative technical solutions for protection in Poland and abroad; this contributes to building the University of Silesia\u2019s image of an innovative university.<\/p>\n
