Today, 13 December 2021, is the 40th anniversary of the announcement of martial law by General Wojciech Jaruzelski. On that day, the power in Poland was taken over by Wojskowa Rada Ocalenia Narodowego (WRON, Military Council of National Salvation). The University of Silesia was the only institution of higher education in Poland whose legally elected authorities in office, namely Prof. August Che\u0142kowski, Rectorof the University of Silesia, and Prof. Irena Bajerowa, Vice-Rector of the University of Silesia, were interned. Overall, almost 100 employees of the University of Silesia were relegated and interned.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the anniversary of the announcement of martial law, Gazeta Uniwersytecka U\u015a (University of Silesia Magazine) published the recollections of participants and witnesses of that time – employees and students of the University of Silesia.
