Over 300 people are participating in the pilot edition of Transform4Europe Week in Katowice organised by the University of Silesia. The programme includes debates, workshops, shows, and meetings, as well as the opportunity to get to know the region and socialise \u2013 this is what the participants of this unique event celebrating the T4EU alliance, can expect from 9 to 13 May 2022. What happened on the second day?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Educating knowledge entrepreneurs – people equipped with the latest knowledge, responsible for their surroundings and ready to face current and future civilisational challenges – this is the motto of our European University. A meeting with Benedikt Schnellb\u00e4cher, PhD, from Saarland University, organised on the second day of Transform4Europe Week was an opportunity to take a closer look at this concept. During the lecture “An introduction to knowledge entrepreneurship,” participants had the chance to find out how innovation adoption models are developed and what barriers might stand in the way of this process. They also were presented with examples of currently created and already tested transformation strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The administrative stream included meetings of representatives of alliance universities, who exchanged their experiences in international cooperation, projects, promotion, communication, and education.<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, members of the Student Council and T4EU steering committees met at the Rectorate of the University of Silesia and at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia to discuss current and planned initiatives of the alliance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Researchers could take part in workshops, while employees of the University of Silesia and local residents could attend a lecture on the importance of translational education for contemporary career paths, delivered by Roberto Della Marina.<\/span><\/p>\n

Transform4Europe Week is a great opportunity not only to make new friends but also to get to know the Silesia region. Sightseeing tours of Katowice and the surrounding cities were prepared for the participants of the event. One of the points of interest was a visit to the historic Nikiszowiec district, which is an example of the heritage of mining culture. The branch of the Museum of Katowice History located there exhibits the interior of a traditional miner’s flat, a laundry room, and a mangle. It was also possible to see the Guido Mine in Zabrze, i.e. a 19th-century inactive coal mine. The guests also went to the Silesian Park in Chorz\u00f3w, where they had an opportunity to take a funicular car ride and visit the Ethnographic Museum housing nearly 70 historic wooden objects of rural and small-town architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tuesday evening was the time of integration meetings of all participants of Transform4Europe Week. One of the elements of the programme was folk dance lessons by the members of the Student Song and Dance Ensemble “Katowice”. This activity took place in the courtyard of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia. During the meeting, animations created by students during the summer Animation Online Course 2021, organised by the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn, were also presented.<\/span><\/p>\n
