\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/p>\nDescription of the week<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nWeek #23 of 50 Weeks in the City of Science\u00a0<\/a>is the Crystal Week. The event is part of the European City of Science programme, which will last throughout 2024.<\/p>\nDuring the week, we invite you to discover how fascinating the world of crystals is and what their unique properties are. It will also be an excellent opportunity to broaden your knowledge of their use. Due to their diversity and uniqueness, crystals are used both in many aspects of everyday life and in advanced technologies. Not everyone realizes that every day we are surrounded by a lot of substances, materials and objects that have a crystal structure. The diamonds known to everyone are crystals of pure carbon, but salt or sugar are also crystals. Crystallography, electronics, optoelectronics, jewelry, chemistry, biology, pharmacy and medicine are several fields in which crystals play an important role.<\/p>\n
What events can we expect?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- During the week, there will be lectures by outstanding specialists from domestic and foreign research centers.<\/li>\n
- Exhibitions and workshops for students.<\/li>\n
- National Crystal Growth Competition.<\/li>\n

\r\n \r\n \r\n <\/p>\nMagdalena Szubka, PhD<\/strong> \u2013 academic teacher, physicist, assistant professor at the Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Exact and Technical Sciences of the University of Silesia. She conducts research on the electronic structure and microstructure of advanced materials used in photonics and modern technologies.
