Waldemar Andzel Waldemar Andzel

A politician, a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th term.

In 1996, he graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science and specialization in social policy. In 1999, he completed a post-graduate course in the Organization of Welfare at the University of Silesia.

In 1989, he joined the Christian-Democratic Labour Faction (ChDSP), and in 1990, the Centre Agreement (PC). He was a member of provincial authorities of the PC. Then, he moved to the Polish Christian Democrat Agreement (PPChD), and later, to the Law and Justice (PiS). He took the position of the Poviat Representative of Law and Justice in Będzin, the Deputy Chairperson of the District Council of in Sosnowiec, and a member of the Regional Management Board in Katowice. In 1998-2002, he served as a councilor of the Będzin poviat. In the 2001 parliamentary election, he was a Sejm candidate from the Law and Justice list, but he did not succeed.

In the 2005, he was elected from the Law and Justice list in the Sosnowiec district for the 5th term of the Sejm. He obtained a Sejm seat for the second time in the 2007 election, and for the third time, in 2011. In 2015, he was re-elected for another term of the Sejm. In 2019, he ran in the European Parliament election but failed. In July 2019, he was appointed the Chairperson of the Special Services Committee at the Sejm. In the election that year, he was elected a member of the ninth term of the Sejm. In the ninth term, he was appointed the Chairperson of the Special Services Committee and the Deputy Chairperson of the National Defence Committee.

Witold Bańka Witold Bańka

A Polish athlete, a sprinter; in the years 2015-2019, the Minister of Sport and Tourism in the cabinets of Beata Szydło and Mateusz Morawiecki; a member of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and from 2020, the President of this organization.

He has graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science.

On November 16, 2015, he was appointed the Minister of Sport and Tourism in the cabinet of Beata Szydło.

In May 2017, he was proposed as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency as a representative of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. His candidature was unanimously supported by all the states represented in the Ad hoc European Committee for the World Anti-Doping Agency (CAHAMA).

On December 11, 2017, he took on the office of the Minister of Sport in Mateusz Morawiecki’a cabinet.

While serving as the minister, he was the initiator of establishing the Polish Anti-Doping Agency (POLADA), the governmental program “Klub” and the program team100, as well as reactivating the program “School Sports Club” (SKS).

In 2018, he became a candidate for the chair of the World Anti-Doping Agency. On May 14, 2019, he was appointed to serve this function in the term beginning on January 1, 2020. The appointment was officially approved on November 7, 2019.

Łukasz Kohut Łukasz Kohut

A politician, an entrepreneur, a photographer, and a social activist. The leader of the Spring party in Śląskie Province, the regional coordinator of the party in three provinces (Śląskie, Opolskie and Małopolskie). A member of the Democratic Union of Silesian Regionalists (DRUŚ) and the association Pearls of Silesia. A member of the 9th term of the European Parliament. He was a graduate of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia with the major in Political Science (2006) as well as Marketing and Management at the School of Management of the University of Silesia (2007). In 2006, he was studying Marketing and Management as part of the Socrates Erasmus program at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences in Varkaus, Finland. He also completed a course in pedagogy at the Cracow University of Technology (2005) and the School for Leaders of the Civic Society (2014).

Right after graduation, he worked at a bank in Sosnowiec. In 2008, he emigrated to Norway, where he worked i.a., in accounting. In 2010, he moved to Prague, where he coordinated an international project between Norway, the Czech Republic and the Philippines. He also coordinated international exchange between Ås videregående skole and the Technical School Complex in Rybnik.

After returning to Poland in 2012, he became a member of the Palikot Movement, in 2013 changed into Your Movement. In 2012, he became the secretary of the party structures in Rybnik, and in 2014, the President of the Management Board of the party in district no. 30. In the same year, he ran in the local government election from the list of Your Movement for a seat in the Śląskie Province council. In the 2015 parliamentary election, he ran as a representative of Your Movement from the list of the United Left. However, he did not succeed.

In 2015, he became a member of the Democratic Union of Silesian Regionalists, an association that promotes regional education and lobbies for the registration of the Silesian language as a regional language.

Since 2017, he has been working with Robert Biedroń at the Democratic Thought Institute. In 2019, he joined the Spring party and was its only candidate in the European Parliament election in constituency no. 11 (Śląskie Province). As a result of that election, Łukasz Kohut became a member of the European Parliament serving in the 9th term.

Ewa Kołodziej Ewa Kołodziej

A politician, a self-governmental activist and a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in the 6th, 8th and 9th term.

In 2002, she graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science. She has worked as a parliamentary assistant, an administrative clerk at the Śląskie Provincial Office, and as a PR specialist at a medical center.

In 2001, she ran to obtain a seat in the Sejm from the Civic Platform list, but she did not succeed. In 2002, she tried to obtain a seat in the Katowice City Council. She became a councilor in mid-term as a replacement for Andrzej Sośnierz. She was re-elected in 2006 and in 2010. She served as the Vice-President of the Katowice City Council and the Chairperson of the Educational Board.

In the 2011 parliamentary election, she obtained a seat in the Sejm as a Civic Platform candidate in the Katowice constituency.

In 2015, she was not re-elected, but several weeks after the beginning of the term, she did become a Sejm member, replacing Tomasz Tomczykiewicz, who had died. In the 8th term of the Sejm, she became a member of the Social Policy and Family Committee and the Senioral Policy Committee. She has also worked at the National and Ethnic Minorities Committee (2015–2018).

In the 2019 election, she succeeded in re-election for another term of the Sejm as a Civic Coalition candidate.

Marek Migalski Marek Migalski

A university teacher, a political journalist and a politician, a member of the 7th term of the European Parliament. In 1999, he graduated from the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science. In 2001, on the basis of the dissertation The Concept of ‘Bridge between East and West’ by Edvard Benes: an Attempt to Maintain Czechoslovakia’s Independence in the Years 1945-1948, he obtained the degree of doctor of philosophy in the field of political science. In 2019, he obtained the degree of habilitated doctor of social science at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.

He did academic placements at Czech universities: at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno, at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, and at the Faculty of Politics and European Studies of Palacký University Olomouc. He has taken part in many national and international political science conferences. He is the author, co-author and editor of more than ten books and the author of several dozen scientific publications.

He publishes articles on the Polish political scene in the press. He is also a renowned political commentator.

In 2009, as a Law and Justice candidate from the Katowice constituency, he obtained a seat in the European Parliament serving in the 7th term. In the EP, he became a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and a member of the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. He also worked as a substitute in the Delegation for Relations with Belarus and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

In 2013, he was the co-founder of a new party Poland Together. One week later, he became the Vice-President of the party and served as such until March 2014. In that year, he was not re-elected in the EP election, running from the first place of the Silesian list of Poland Together.

In 2016, he was the host of the Two Truths show on TVN24. In 2019, he ran to become a senator of the 10th term as a Civic Coalition candidate.

Monika Rosa Monika Rosa

A politician and a political scientist, a member of the Sejm serving in the 8th and 9th term.

She has graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science. From 2010, she has been a clerk at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland during the term of Bronisław Komorowski. She worked, i.a., as the Deputy Director of the Ongoing Service Team at the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland. She was the co-founder of the magazine “Liberté!”, and she worked at the Young Centre, and then at the Project: Poland Association In the 2015 parliamentary election she ran to obtain a seat in the Sejm in the Katowice constituency from the first place on the Ryszard Petru Modern party list. She became a member of the 8th term of the Sejm. In the 2019 election, she succeeded in re-election for another term of the Sejm as a Civic Coalition candidate.

Jarosław Wieczorek Jarosław Wieczorek

A politician, an entrepreneur and a local government official; since 2015, the Head of Śląskie Province.

He graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice with the major in Political Science.

In 2006, he was elected a town councilor of Gliwice for the first time. He was re-elected in 2010 and 2014.

Since December 8, 2015, he has been serving as the Head of Śląskie Province.
