The project identified how various functional components of the city are connected and influence one another, including natural elements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Challenges:<\/strong> While humans influence ecosystems, they also have their own needs. A key challenge was to initiate actions aimed at sustaining the functioning of urban ecosystems as spaces that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">meet basic human needs,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">enable interactions with elements of the natural environment,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">provide other ecosystem services.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Completed activities:<\/strong> The project has carried out a series of seminars aimed at:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Raising public awareness by:<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 increasing the understanding of global climate change,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 identifying local challenges faced by the cities,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 encouraging actions based on scientific research.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Developing research on cities:<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 highlighting the potential for studying urban development in the context of urban ecosystem functioning,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 carrying out expert analysis covering the relationship between cities and the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Initiating collaboration:<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 engaging local entities,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2013 developing pro-ecological good practices and solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Thematic scope of the seminars:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>City with the Biodiversity Indicator<\/em> \u2013 participants focused on exploring architectural solutions that may in the future answer the issues of restoring areas transformed by the industrial activity or left to be reclaimed by the nature itself;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>City Like a Sponge!<\/em> \u2013 participants investigated the significance blue-green infrastructure has for the quality of life in the city.
