announces the open call for the position of Assistant Professor in the research-didactic employees’ group

Entries to the contest may be submitted by those who meet the conditions defined in Art. 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 85, as amended).

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • conducting research in the discipline of biological sciences in the scope of mycology, microbiology, environmental biotechnology and molecular biology, working with research results and preparing scientific publications and conference reports,
  • conducting research-development works,
  • conducting classes on the 1st and 2nd cycle studies in the scope of microbiology and related sciences,
  • performing organizational tasks arising from the regulations of the University of Silesia for the Faculty and for the University,
  • participation in realization of scientific and research-development projects conducted by the Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology Team,
  • applying for research funds in competitions organized by NCN and NCBiR or from other external sources.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • doctoral degree in the discipline of biological sciences,
  • minimum 4 years of experience in conducting research in biological sciences,
  • current scientific achievements in mycology and environmental microbiology documented by at least two publications that appeared in the last 3 years scored minimum 100 points (scoring in accordance with the appendix to the announcement of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the 18th of December 2019)
  • minimum 4 years of experience in laboratory work,
  • managing minimum 1 scientific project financed from the external sources (e.g. NCN, FNP, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, EU projects) and participation in realization of at least 2 scientific projects,
  • practical skills in conducting trap cultures of arbuscular fungi,
  • practical skills in research methods including: isolation and propagation of bacteria and saprophytic fungi as well as microscopic and molecular evaluation of myccorhizal fungal colonization of plants, ability to design primers for the PCR reactions and new generation sequencing, molecular biology techniques used to evaluate the biodiversity of groups of bacteria and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (PCR, qPCR, DGGE, PLFAS, omic methods), ability to identify arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi by molecular methods, evalueting the levels of the oxidative stress markers in plants,
  • ability to use the research devices: liquid chromatograph, gas chromatograph, light microscope, fluorescent microscope, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, thermal cycler, real-time PCR equipment and electrophoresis equipment,
  • good command of English – B2 level or higher (confirmed by FCE certificate or equivalent certificate. In the case no certificate is provided English language skill will be verified during the interview),
  • ability to operate the following software: MS Office, Statistica, Past, Mycocalc, Mothur, MEGA, Chromas Lite, MAFFT, MrBAYES, RAxML-EPA,
  • ability to work with databases (e.g. NCBI),
  • minimum 4 years of experience in conducting classes in the higher education institution on the 1st cycle and 2nd cycle studies in the scope of microbiology and environmental biotechnology,
  • knowledge of Polish that allows for conducting classes,
  • documented didactic achievements and achievements in knowledge popularization,
  • readiness to conduct classes remotely and ability to use the tools for distance learning.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • scientific internship (minimum 3 months) in the foreign research institution that conducts research in life sciences and environmental sciences,
  • international cooperation confirmed by co-authored publications,
  • readiness to share one’s knowledge and experience with others,
  • self-reliance, good work organization skills.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • doctoral degree in chemistry or related fields,
  • very good command of spoken and written English (minimum B2),
  • minimum 3 years of experience in conducting research in chemistry,
  • minimum 3 years of experience in laboratory work in electrochemistry,
  • documented scientific achievement indexed in Scopus or Web o Science, published during the last 3 years that proves conducting research in chemistry, especially in electrochemistry,
  • experience in using electrochemical techniques documented by publications,
  • Hirsch Index (IH) of 6 or higher according to Web of Science,
  • documented history of managing scientific projects financed externally by Polish or foreign institutions or a documented history of research works financed by the external institutions as a result of being selected in an open call,
  • the ability to join electrochemical techniques with spectroscopic techniques such as absorption spectroscopy or emission spectroscopy,
  • presentation of a detailed plan of scientific development in electrochemistry

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • scientific mobility confirmed by documented internship (minimum 3 months) in the foreign or Polish institution with activities that include the usage of electrochemistry,
  • ability to independently communicate the research results in English, orally and in writing, especially editing scientific manuscripts and oral presentation of results,
  • 2 letters of recommendation,
  • readiness to hold the function of the leader of a research project team managing research in electrochemistry,

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • doctoral degree in Chemical sciences, Chemical engineering, Materials engineering or Physical sciences awarded not earlier than 7 years before the date of the planned employment in the project,
  • fluent in written and spoken English (minimum B2),
  • experience in conducting research in the discipline of Chemical sciences, Chemical engineering, Materials engineering or Physical sciences documented by scientific achievement indexed in Scopus or in the Web of Science,
  • documented scientific achievement that proves conducting research in the scope of surface tension measurements, contact angles measurement, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) or Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA),
  • publications in scientific journals with the high IF factor (the lead author or the corresponding author preferred),
  • experience of laboratory work in the scope of calorimetric measurements: DSC or TGA, surface tension measurement and wetting angles measurement, documented by publications,
  • ability to independently communicate research results orally and in writing, especially self-editing manuscripts of scientific publications and spoken presentation of results, especially in English,

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • experience in research of energy storage and conversion systems,
  • experience in research and modeling of different phenomena in Nanoscale, particularly including modeling of wetting phenomena in the Nanoscale in the liquid-solid systems, proved by publications,

  • minimum 5 years of experience in playing piano as an instrumentalist giving concerts and as a session musician,
  • documented experience in realization of musical projects including externally financed projects, as well as realization of artistic projects as a part of programmes announced by state institutions (e.g. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage or institutions of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education). Candidates are obliged to present their portfolio with the described artistic achievements in the electronic form or, if it is not possible in the paper form,
  • minimum 3 years of experience in realization of piano accompaniment, in particular in the scope of popular music for the needs of didactics (accompaniment is necessary for realization of the didactic process in the case of the following programmes: conducting, singing, the selected musical instrument),

  • minimum 3 years of experience as a teacher in the music school in terms of conducting instrumental and instrumental and vocal ensembles, also in the scope of popular music,

  • experience in interpretation of analytical data using chemometric and statistical methods for the needs of justice and law enforcement institutions,
  • minimum 3 months of the documented international internship in the institution using Raman Spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy,
  • knowledge of interpretation of data acquired in forensic laboratories documented in publications or confirmed by certificates (e.g. training certificates),
  • documented history of applying for funds for research in the Polish or foreign institutions,
  • ability to independently communicate research results orally and in writing, in particular self-editing manuscripts of scientific publications and spoken presentation of results, especially in English,
