Winners of “Pearls of science” programme

The Ministry of Science and Education orogramme “Perły nauki” (Pearls of science) is an initiative addressed to outstanding students and graduates. 335 applications were submitted in the first edition, out of which 98 winning projects were selected. The winners included students of the University of Silesia:

Wojciech Wydmański with his project entitled „Sądy polubowne w Polsce w latach 1918–1949” (Arbitration courts in Poland 1918-1949),
Luiza Orszulak – „Biozgodne polimery o kontrolowanej taktyczności i ich wpływ na stabilność API w układach binarnych” (Biocompatible polymers with controlled tacticity and their impact on the API stability in binary systems),
Maciej Mazur – „Oblicza zwrotu deskryptywnego – fenomen opisu w literaturze polskiej po roku ‘45” (Aspects of descriptive expression – the phenomenon of description in the Polish literature after 1945).

EUROSTUDENT – research on trends in higher education

The research team acting on behalf of the Minister of Science and Education encourages students to take part in important and interesting research:

“We participate in the largest European research project on the life of students in the form of an online survey – EUROSTUDENT. It is a cyclical project that allows capturing trends useful in forming public policy. Join! We invite all participants of the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle, full-cycle and postgraduate studies to take part in the survey. We invite full-time and part-time students as well as those who participate in the distance learning programmes. The survey will take about 20 minutes, it is available until the end of June. We recommend filling it in on a larger screen than your smartphone. We assure you that your vote will be of great importance for the reliability of the results and the representativeness of the research, and thus we can compare Poland’s results to other European countries. Share your story and experiences.”

Cost-free digital photos for the students and candidates

The University of Silesia entered into cooperation with FunFotos Sp. z o.o., a leader in the market for photos for documents in Poland. Under the cooperation, until 30 September 2021, all students and candidates for studies can make cost-free digital photos required in the admission process or diploma photos.

The specially designed website allows uploading a photo, which is redesigned so it meets all requirements for diploma and student ID photos. A size, resolution, and other parameters are automatically adjusted, and the background is deleted and changed into white.

There is no need to modify an uploaded file, yet the photo has to meet a few basic requirements. The face must be evenly lit, and the background uniform. The posing individual must be facing the lens at a distance of at least 40 cm from the camera. In order to take a proper picture, it is worth asking for someone’s help.

A modified and downloaded from the website photography can be printed or used in the system of Online Application System used by the candidates for studies.
