An academic year begins with a formal inaugural ceremony at the beginning of October and ends on the last day of September. It consists of a winter semester and a summer semester. It includes periods with classes, exam sessions (and retake sessions), a semester break, holiday breaks (including summer holidays with a period for traineeships) and sometimes also additional free days, i.e. so-called Rector’s or Dean’s days. The detailed timetable of the academic year is announced by the Rector.
