Enrollment time

Registration for persons qualified in the admission procedure will take place from July 16, 2025 to July 18, 2025:

Wednesday 16/07/2025: 9.30 – 12.30; 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
Thursday 17/07/2025: 9.30 – 12.30; 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
Friday 18/07/2025: 9.30 – 12.00;

Registration should be made in person or by a person authorized on a written document (the authorization remains in the documentation) at the Doctoral School Office, Katowice, ul. Bankowa 14, room 406B (foreingers – room 406).

Candidates who have not yet uploaded a photo to the IRK system and have not completed their ORCID number should complete it immediately – without it, registration will not be possible.

Foreign candidates who, for organizational reasons (e.g. visa issue), cannot arrive shortly after admission should contact Ms Diana Pasek from the DS office (diana.pasek@us.edu.pl).

Necessary documents

The candidate brings documents in a white, blank, tied A4 document folder. The folder should be described by the instruction zal-nr 1-opis teczki-2025 eng instruction. The folder should contain:

1. Application – personal questionnaire – for admission to the Doctoral School, printed from the candidate’s personal registration account in IRK: My account -> recruitment applications -> Documents and further steps (at the bottom of the page)
2. A photocopy of the diploma certifying obtaining second-cycle qualifications (original available for inspection), or in the absence thereof, a certificate from the dean’s office confirming the award of the professional title. A photocopy of the diploma copy must be provided immediately after receiving it.
3. ZUS ZUA form completed by the instructions, zał-2-druk-ZUS-ZUA; Explanations for ZUS ZUA printed in two copies.
4. The completed scholarship application zal-nr-4-application-for-a-doctoral-scholarship-2025 printed in two copies.
5. A signed declaration of knowledge of the principles arising from the Regulations on the protection, use, and management of the results of intellectual works at the University of Silesia in Katowice and the principles of their commercialization (Appendix No. 5 – Annex to Regulation No). Notes: leave the album number for later addition. Unit: Doctoral School.
6. A statement authorizing the University of Silesia to demonstrate the doctoral student’s achievements when evaluating the discipline (Appendix 6 – zał-6-declaration-for-a-discipline). Note: Please leave the album number for later addition.
7. GDPR information clause (Annex 7 appendix-7-RODO clause).
8. Oath (annex no. 8 – oath) Notes: please do not enter the date oath – annex no. 8 – oath- 8

The first stage of the admission process for the Doctoral School at the University of Silesia in Katowice for the academic year 2025/2026 has ended.

209 candidates took part in the process. 157 candidates were qualified for the second stage. The second stage – interviews – will take place on July 8-10, 2025, on-site, at the headquarters of the Film School of the University of Silesia in Katowice, ul. Św. Pawła 3. Candidates who ask for online interview will be informed about the way of connection.

The schedule of interviews, divided into recruitment areas, contains information about the room, date, discipline, and candidate’s identification number. The identification number can be checked in the IRK system.

Qualified candidates will receive additional information via the IRK system. We kindly ask you to read this information carefully.

Unqualified candidates who were rejected for formal reasons, or whose project was assessed poorly by experts at the first stage, will receive administrative decisions within a few days via the IRK system.

Effective June 18^th 2025, the University Council of Doctoral Student Government announces a competition for doctoral students and doctoral organizations of the University of Silesia for funds. The maximum amount of funding is PLN 5,000 and PLN 10,000, respectively.

The competition funds are used to support such activities and projects aimed at activating the environment of doctoral students, improving the quality of their scientific research, publishing their results or popularizing scientific knowledge.

Applications can be submitted until July 2^nd  2025 at: doktoranci@us.edu.pl . In addition,  until June 25^th , we will accept your applications for consultation for formal errors with the possibility of sending them back for correction.

We also inform you that due to the amendment of the Regulations on the distribution of funds at the disposal of the Doctoral Student Council of the University of Silesia in Katowice and the repeal of § 3(5) of the Regulations by a resolution of the URSD dated February 27, 2024, applicants for funding from the URSD budget do not need to show previous application for funds in the Doctoral School competition.

In addition, we remind you:

-The form for individual applications is Annex No.1 and for academic organisations is Annex No.2;

-In Section I of Appendix 1 dedicated to year of study it is required to indicate current year of studies, not the academic year;

-The declaration of consent to the processing of personal data requires, in addition to the date and signature, the selection of the appropriate option from I consent/ I do not consent;

-Signatures on all documents may be either handwritten or through a qualified electronic signature.

We kindly ask you to carefully read the provisions of the Regulation and all documentation in the attachments on the site, and to send us well thought-out projects. The amount of funds is limited! Submission of a correctly filled out application by the deadline does not guarantee the funds will be allocated. The assessment of projects by the URSD competition committee will be the deciding factor. The final amount of funds available for distribution in the competition will be determined by the Council on the basis of the allocated amount of the URSD budget for 2025.

The Doctoral School of the University of Silesia in Katowice invites international doctoral students to participate in the PROM – International Academic Exchange Programme 2024.

The aim of the project is to support international mobility and enhance participants’ academic competencies through short-term educational and exchange activities organized by the University of Silesia. Each visit must be related to the scientific development goals specified in the submitted application documents.

Another call for applications in the “jUSt transition” project have just been open. We’d like to encourage you to apply for funds in one of the tasks of your choice. Announced tasks:

1. Financing of international mobility:

Key conditions:
