The University of Silesia in Katowice announces the recruitment of students from STEM fields to participate in the 1st International Winter School in Data Science
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

About the International Winter School:
\n<\/strong>The International Winter School in Data Science will provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in modern data analysis. The programme covers the entire data analysis workflow, including data collection, cleaning and pre-processing, descriptive and inferential statistics, predictive modelling, and data visualisation.<\/p>\n

Participants will also explore advanced analytical methods, such as clustering techniques, decision trees, and supervised machine learning. A key component of the Winter School will be hands-on project workshops, where participants will analyse real datasets and present the outcomes of their work.<\/p>\n

\n10 students from the University of Silesia in Katowice
\n10 students from Vytautas Magnus University<\/p>\n

Format:
\n<\/strong>Classes will be held in lecture rooms and laboratories at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
\nThe programme may be preceded by online lectures before the on-site part of the school.<\/p>\n

ECTS credits and certificate:
\n<\/strong>Participants who complete the Winter School will receive a certificate specifying the learning outcomes (30 hours of classes).<\/p>\n

How to apply (VMU students):<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Complete the application form (Annex No. 1A \u2013 Student’s Application for Participation<\/a>), including Section 1: Information about the Candidate and Section 4: Substantive Criteria.<\/li>\n
  2. Print the application form.<\/li>\n
  3. Sign the application form on the last page, indicating the date and place.<\/li>\n
  4. Attach the required certificates\/confirmations. A copy of each supporting document must be attached to the application.<\/li>\n
  5. Obtain the signature of the dean’s office of the relevant faculty in Section 1.<\/li>\n
  6. Obtain the signature of the co-organiser of the support activity (Prof. Dr Daiva Vitkut\u0117-Ad\u017egauskien\u0117) at the end of the application, under the statement confirming the relevance of the requested form of support.<\/li>\n
  7. Send a signed scan of the application form, together with the required certificates\/confirmations, to transform4europe@us.edu.pl<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Selection criteria:<\/strong>
    \nApplications will be assessed on a points basis according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n

    Language proficiency:
    \nEnglish: A1\u2013A2 (1 point), B1\u2013B2 (2 points), C1\u2013C2 (3 points)
    \nSecond foreign language: A1\u2013A2 (1 point), B1\u2013B2 (2 points), C1\u2013C2 (3 points)<\/p>\n

    Language certificates:
    \nIssued by a language school \u2013 1 point
    \nIssued by a university unit \u2013 2 points
    \nExternal certificates issued by an accredited examination centre \u2013 3 points
    \n(scans of certificates must be attached)<\/p>\n

    Dean\u2019s\/Co-organiser\u2019s (Prof. Dr Daiva Vitkut\u0117-Ad\u017egauskien\u0117) of the form of support opinion confirming the relevance of the proposed support to the study programme:
    \nNo relevance \u2013 0 points
    \nConfirmed relevance \u2013 3 points<\/p>\n

    A ranking list and a reserve list will be created based on the total score.<\/p>\n

    Participation in the project and its implementation (VMU students):
    \n<\/strong>QUALIFIED PARTICIPANTS, BEFORE THE START OF THE WINTER SCHOOL
    \n(deadline: by 9 September 2026):<\/p>\n

    1. Must complete the Excel file titled \u201cData GZ 10 2026\u201d<\/a> and send it individually to: transform4europe@us.edu.pl<\/a> (this will enable the payment of financial support).<\/li>\n
    2. Register in the NAWA application system as project participants, following the instructions in the file \u201cregistration NAWA \u2013 EN\u201d<\/a> and submit the registration\/application.<\/li>\n
