Eve Patten <\/strong>is Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute and Professor of English at Trinity College, Dublin. A scholar in nineteenth and twentieth-century Irish and British literatur\u0119 and cultural history, she is editor of the volume of essays, Irish Literature in Transition, 1940-1980 <\/em>(Cambridge University Press, 2020), and author of a book about representations of Ireland\u2019s revolutionary decade in English writing, Ireland, Revolution, and the English Modernist Imagination <\/em>(Oxford University Press, 2022). She is currently collaborating with the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen\u2019s University Belfast on the Ireland\u2019s Border Culture <\/em>project (funded by the HEA Shared Island programme) which will produce a digital archive of border-related literatur\u0119 and visual art. This seminar will consider the concept of a \u2018culturalborderscape\u2019 (McCall,2021), in relations to the history and cultural geography of Ireland\u2019s borderregion. Since the partition of the Island in 1921, and the introduction of aboundary line to demarcate Northern Ireland from what would become the Republic of Ireland, the idea of a border has been understood largely in military and administrative terms, as a zone of restriction<\/em>. The\u2018Ireland\u2019s Border Culture Project\u2019, set up in 2022 by Trinity College Dublin and Queen\u2019s University Belfast (with Irish government \u2018SharedIsland\u2019 funding) has attempted to understand the border differently, in terms of cultural production <\/em>\u2013 in short, the production of a distinct culture generated through literature, theatre, memoir, film, photography and painting.
