\nWith this book, dive into the vibrant genesis of the Polish literary avant-garde, powered by the first movements considered futuristic, inherent in the very heart of the avant-garde revolt. The author attempts to redefine the narrative by covering the captivating stories of the three central figures: Jerzy Jankowski, the eternal „harbinger” of futurism; Anatol Stern and Aleksander Wat, prominently cast as neofuturs-primitivists. Their exceptional contributions elude the confines of the avant-garde as a history of art movements, challenging and redefining its inception. This narrative shift prompts an exploration of the new points of reference. Through archival research, press analyses, and interpretations of manifestos, poetry, and prose, the author reconstructs the earliest expressions of the Polish avant-garde. This exploration unfolds through the lens of collectivity, peripherality, and the notion of „minor literature.” As a result, the distinctiveness of linguistic experiments and the profound political resonance of the futuristic provocations by Jankowski, Stern, and Wat can be fully appreciated. In all the cases discussed, the avant-garde emerges as a challenger to the majority, although it resonates differently each time.<\/p>\n

\nMarta Baron-Milian<\/strong> is faculty member of the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Silesia. She graduated from the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies Program of the „Artes Liberales” Academy and the Interfaculty Individual Studies in the Humanities of the University of Silesia. She is a member of the editorial board of \u201c\u015al\u0105skie Studia Polonistyczne\u201d and a fellow of the Centre for Avant-Garde Studies of the Jagiellonian University. She has published the monographs Wat plus Vat. Relationships between literature and economics in the works of Alexander Wat<\/em> (Wat plus Vat. Zwi\u0105zki literatury i ekonomii w tw\u00f3rczo\u015bci Aleksandra Wata<\/em>, 2015) and Burying the Burial. Archaeologist and Gravedigger in the Works of Jerzy Ficowski<\/em> (Grzebanie grzebania. Archeolog i grabarz w tw\u00f3rczo\u015bci Jerzego Ficowskiego<\/em>, 2014). She co-edited the collective books Gender of the Avant-Garde<\/em> (P\u0142e\u0107 awangardy<\/em>, 2019) and Theory Over Interpretation?<\/em> (Teoria nad-interpretacj\u0105?<\/em>, 2012).
