On 17 June 2026, during a meeting with Sonia Laszlo, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts at McGill University, Prof. Marcin Gierczyk received the signed cooperation agreement between McGill University and the University of Silesia in Katowice.<\/p>\n
The agreement provides a framework for developing academic, scientific, and educational cooperation between the Faculty of Arts at McGill University and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia.<\/p>\n
On behalf of the University of Silesia, the agreement was signed by Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski, Vice-Rector for International and Domestic Cooperation. On behalf of McGill University, it was signed by Prof. Anja Geitmann, Vice-President, Global Engagement.<\/p>\n
The partnership will be developed on the principles of mutual benefit, respect for the autonomy of both institutions, and collaborative dialogue. The agreement includes opportunities for student exchange, participation in academic projects, joint research activities, and the exchange of researchers and academic staff.<\/p>\n
The cooperation framework also provides for the organisation of joint conferences, seminars, symposia, and other academic initiatives.<\/p>\n
McGill University is one of the most recognised universities in Canada and worldwide. Ranked 27th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, the university is known for the high quality of its teaching and research. Its history includes many important scientific achievements, including the Nobel Prize-winning research on radioactivity conducted by Ernest Rutherford.<\/p>\n
Today, McGill University conducts research across a wide range of disciplines, including the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, epigenetics, emerging technologies, and alternative energy sources. Cooperation with such a prestigious institution represents an important step in the further internationalisation of the University of Silesia and strengthens its presence within the global academic community.<\/p>\n
The agreement was initiated by Marcin Gierczyk, PhD DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Edyta Widawska, PhD DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Vice-Dean for International and Domestic Cooperation, and Prof. Delphine Collin-V\u00e9zina, Head of the Centre for Research on Children and Families at the McGill University.<\/p>\n
