Temat wykładów:

Gender, Islam and International Development:

women’s empowerment and human rights

in the Middle East and North Africa

 

Ewa K. Strzelecka holds a PhD degree in Social and Political Science from the University of Granada (Spain). She is currently taking up a postdoctoral position at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands). Before winning the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in 2021, she was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Granada. From 2017 to 2019 she worked as a postdoc at the Nova University of Lisbon (Portugal), and from 2016 to 2017 as an Associate Professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). Since 2007, she has been a part of the AfricaInEs research team at the University of Granada.

She was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Wroclaw, Poland (2020), at the University Autonomous of Madrid, Spain (2019), at the University of Bayreuth, Germany (2018), at the RCC Harvard University, USA (2014), at the University of Sana’a, Yemen (2011-2013), at the SOAS University of London, UK (2010), at the Cervantes Institute in Cairo, Egypt (2008) and at the Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies, Yemen (2007).

She carried out fieldwork in various countries, including Western Sahara (2018-2019), Yemen (2007-2013), Egypt (2008), Morocco (2004), Saudi Arabia (2012), India (2017), Mozambique (2009), Bolivia (2006), Spain (2020, 2009) and Poland (1999-2002).

For the last 15 years, she has provided international development consulting services to UN agencies, governments and local organizations across the world to support sustainable development, human rights and gender equality.

She is an award-winning author of a number books and research papers, including Mujeres en la Primavera Árabe: construcción de una cultura política de resistencia feminista en Yemen (Women in the Arab Spring: the construction of a political culture of feminist resistance in Yemen), published in 2017 by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
