On 10–12 September 2024, another international meeting of the MECOG-CE project took place, with the participation of our staff members:

  • Assoc. Prof. Robert Pyka, PhD (Project Coordinator at the University of Silesia),
  • Assoc. Prof. Krzysztof Bierwiaczonek, PhD,
  • Zuzanna Neuve-Église, PhD,
  • Assoc. Prof. Małgorzata Suchacka, PhD.

The event brought together participants from metropolitan areas across Central Europe. The main objective was to present the first outcomes of the work conducted within the study clusters – working groups formed around the best practices and tools for metropolitan cooperation identified during the initial phase of the project.

Held in the heart of Ostrava, the meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration and demonstrated the potential for knowledge transfer and the adaptation of practical solutions tailored to specific metropolitan contexts.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the hosts organised a study visit to Dolní Vítkovice – a revitalized post-industrial site comprising a former steel mill, coke plant and coal mine. Today, this unique area has become a vibrant space for entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, set against the backdrop of a remarkable industrial heritage.
