On May 8, 2026, the conference “Restless World, Restless Democracies” will take place on the campus of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon.

IEP Colloquia 2026 offers an in-depth reflection on the challenges facing contemporary democracies in the context of geopolitical instability, escalating conflicts, and declining trust in institutions. Moving beyond individual or episodic crises, the conference examines political unrest as a structural condition that simultaneously affects domestic politics and the international order.

The program includes individual paper presentations followed by discussion sessions that foster academic dialogue and critical debate. The program will also feature a keynote lecture and special networking sessions encouraging the exchange of ideas and collaboration among researchers from various disciplines and institutions.

Conference information:

  • The conference language is English.
  • Each individual paper presentation is allotted 15 minutes.
  • Each panel will include 40 minutes of discussion.

The registration fee includes participation in the conference, coffee breaks, lunch, and conference materials.

    Researchers: €80 | Students: €40
  • Regular registration (April 7 – April 17, 2026):
    Researchers: €100 | Students: €50

Mobility costs for staff/PhD candidates selected by the organizer may be covered by the University of Silesia project funds, depending on availability.
