As part of the SUCCESS – Socially Innovative Ukrainian Centres in Central Europe: Empowerment and Social Support project, the University of Silesia in Katowice organised intensive Polish and English language courses for Ukrainians living in Poland. The initiative aimed to strengthen participants’ language skills, facilitate their social integration, and enhance their educational and professional opportunities.

The courses were delivered by experienced instructors from the School of Polish Language and Culture at the University of Silesia and were offered at different proficiency levels. The programme focused on the practical use of language in everyday life, work, and education, using modern and interactive teaching methods. Participants also had the opportunity to develop their communication skills in an open and supportive international learning environment.

The courses attracted considerable interest. Across the two editions, 80 participants enrolled in the programme, 71 successfully completed their courses and received certificates. Evaluation results confirmed a very high level of participant satisfaction, with respondents particularly appreciating the professionalism of the instructors, the practical nature of the classes, and the positive learning atmosphere.

The implementation of the language courses demonstrated the important role that language education plays in supporting social inclusion, fostering confidence, and creating new educational and professional opportunities for Ukrainians living in Poland.

język to success

Opinion from a Polish language student

Participation in the intensive Polish language course as part of the SUCCESS project was an exceptionally valuable experience for me. I was truly impressed by Karolina’s professionalism. She conducted the classes with great dedication and explained everything in a very clear and understandable way. The atmosphere during the lessons was so enjoyable that the only downside was that the course lasted for such a short time. Taking part in the project allowed me to organize and strengthen my knowledge of Polish grammar, while also giving me much greater confidence, which now makes my everyday communication much easier.

Opinion from an English language student

I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the intensive English language course. As a working professional, I particularly appreciated the online format. The strong focus on English grammar was very helpful in improving language accuracy. If I could suggest one thing for future editions, I would appreciate even more emphasis on speaking practice and everyday communication, as these skills are especially valuable in professional life. I hope that one day I will be able to speak English as confidently and fluently as Mr. Łukasz!
