About ICBWS

Interdisciplinary Centre for Research on Judicature of the University of Silesia in Katowice is an organisational unit of the University of Silesia, the subject of which is the construction and description of a model of modern judicature.

The ongoing social, technological, political and cultural changes result in the need to look at the justice system anew and answer the question of what the judicature should be like in the 21st century, taking into account the need to ensure its reliability, transparency, efficiency and independence.

Social expectations regarding the functioning of the judiciary set the directions for its shaping – modernisation and reconstruction aimed at creating a simpler, understandable, efficient, accessible and independent judiciary. ICBWS conducts dogmatic and legal, comparative, sociological, and philosophical and axiological research, the aim of which is to answer the question of what the justice system should be like, so that it meets social expectations and enjoys the trust of citizens, and at the same time functions in accordance with the principles that should apply in democratic and law-abiding country.
