Employees of the Institute of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia, Michał Sobala, Urszula Myga-Piątek and Bartłomiej Szypuła, published the paper “Assessment of Changes in a Viewshed in the Western Carpathians Landscape as a Result of Reforestation” in a special issue of “Land” entitled “Landscape Transformation and Changes in Land Use Intensity”.
By combining data from the digital elevation model, digital surface model, and archival and contemporary maps, it was possible to look back over 170 years to answer the question posed above. So far, changes in the viewshed over such a long period of time have not been analyzed. In this article, the authors combined two approaches in the study of landscape changes: the horizontal approach, which treats the landscape as an area, and the vertical approach, where the landscape is analyzed as a view.
