Dr Jacek Szczygieł was awarded the Mieczysław Bekker scholarship from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) for a one-year postdoc at the University of Vienna. Dr. Szczygieł will carry out the project entitled Neotectonics of the Northern Calcareous Alps in the light of the fault kinematic analysis, the morphology of deep karst systems, and U/Th dating of damaged speleothem. The project will be implemented together with Prof. Bernhard Grasemann and the Structural Processes Group in the Geology Department of the University of Vienna. The main aim of the project is to decipher the Quaternary kinematics of the Königssee-Lammertal-Traunsee fault zone in relation to its Miocene evolution and current seismicity by integrating tectonic, geomorphological and, geochronological data from deep caves near the faults.
