Project title:

Tectonic and thermal evolution of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (Western Carpathians) constrained by the structural and organic petrology data

The scientists of the Institute of Earth Sciences in cooperation with scientists from the Comenius University in Bratislava received funding in the NAWA competition for Joint research projects between the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic. The coordinator of the project in Poland is Magdalena Zielińska and in Slovakia Prof. Dušan Plašienka.

Project goals:

  1. a) bilateral cooperation between Slovak and Polish academic institutions; geological research at the territory of the Pieniny Klippen Belt,
  2. b) evaluation of time, reasons and rate of burial depth and subsequent exhumation of the Pieniny Klippen Belt units,
  3. c) integration of research methods used in structural analysis and organic petrology to obtain the Jurassic-Miocene evolution models of the Pieniny Klippen Belt as a key area of the Western Carpathian folding and thrusting

Project duration: 2 years
