University of Silesia in Katowice

University of Silesia in Katowice has four campuses: in Katowice, Chorzów, Sosnowiec and Cieszyn. However the Rectorate and the University’s “headquarters” are located in Katowice – one of the main cities of the Metropolis GZM – Upper Silesia-Dąbrowa Basin Metropolis (Metropolia Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska – metropolitan association composed of 41 cities and municipalities. In the whole Metropolis a well-organized public transport is available and you can use public transport: trains, buses and trams using a shared tickets.

BUSES AND TRAMS

You can buy a variety of tram and bus tickets: one-time ticket for 20, 40 or 90 minutes, group ticket (for 5 people), daily ticket, ticket for a number of rides (20, 40 or 80, which is valid for 180 days) or long-term ticket (7-day, 30-day, 90-day or 180-day tickets). There is also a monthly ticket for both buses and trains on a specific route.

Apart from the one-time tickets, that are available in “kiosks” (small street shops where you can buy things like newspapers, magazines or snacks) or through applications (e.g. bank applications), you need to buy tickets either on the above website (after creating an account), or using applications like, for example: zbiletem,  Jakdojade, Mobilet, SkyCash or other.

TRAINS

In Poland there is a number of different lines of trains depending on the area of Poland, the train standard and speed.

You can also buy your tickets on this website. The paper tickets are also available on bigger train stations (but please be aware that often there are separate counters for different lines), where you can find cash registers or/and ticket machines. You can also buy a ticket while on the train, but the price may be higher. Also, in that case, after getting on the train you need to find the ticket inspector to purchase a ticket straight away  otherwise you may be charged with a fine.

Please have in mind that trains can be late as a major renovation of train lines is taking place in the Silesian Voivodship. Also closing the viaduct in the nearby city of Chorzów slows the down the traffic in the area. Therefore plan your journey taking these circumstances into account.
