A ceremony to confer the title of Doctor honoris causa of the University of Silesia on Professor Marek Safjan took place on Wednesday, 20 November 2024, at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
The title was awarded by the resolution of the Senate of the University of Silesia in Katowice on 10 September 2024.
Professor Maksymilian Pazdan became the supervisor in the honorary doctorate conferral procedure. The reviewers were Professor Maciej Szpunar, Professor Mirosław Wyrzykowski and Professor Jerzy Zajadło.
Professor Marek Safjan
Professor Marek Safjan is a recognized lawyer and authority on civil, medical, European, and constitutional law. For many years, he was a lecturer at the University of Warsaw and served as Vice-Chancellor. He was a judge from 1997 and President of the Constitutional Court from 1998 to 2006. In 2009, Professor Safjan became a judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). He was awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland. 2012, Professor Safjan received an honorary doctorate from the European University Institute in Florence.
Professor Marek Safjan is the author of numerous scientific publications that have significantly impacted the legal discourse in Poland and Europe. His extensive scholarly work, involvement in social activities, and dedication to judicial service testify to his extraordinary commitment to the promotion of the rule of law, democracy, and freedom.
