Institute of Materials Engineering

The laboratory conducts research in the field of thermal analysis of materials, with particular emphasis on the application of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).

Materials delivered for testing are prepared on-site and subsequently analyzed using a Mettler Toledo DSC1 differential scanning calorimeter. Experiments are carried out under controlled conditions, employing liquid nitrogen cooling and either an inert or reactive gas atmosphere, depending on the requirements of the study.

The analyses focus on processes and parameters such as heat flow, specific heat capacity, enthalpy, phase transitions, and the kinetics of physical and chemical processes in various materials as a function of temperature. In addition, melting and solidification points, crystallization temperature, and glass transition temperature are determined.

Workshop equipment:

  • Differential Scanning Calorimeter (Mettler-Toledo DSC1) with liquid nitrogenThe apparatus enables measurements of heat flow, phase transitions, kinetics of physical and chemical processes in various materials as a function of temperature (from -140ºC to 700ºC) and time. Real working temperature available in laboratories – from -120ºC to 600ºC.
  • Radwag AS 220/60/C/2 laboratory scale
