Social Work, 1st cycle studies, 2nd cycle studies

Social Work is a degree programme offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia at the 1st and 2nd cycle, both full-time and part-time. This degree programme is particularly related to such sciences as: sociology, psychology, pedagogy and the basics of legal sciences. If you associate your future with helping people who need it, it’s a perfect choice for you! During the 2nd cycle studies you can choose a major that best suits your interests.

The main goal of education in Social Work degree programme is to prepare for professional practice of the profession of a social worker, both in terms of institutional social assistance and in the area of broadly understood social services. Therefore, in the education process you will develop practical skills (built during workshops and practical classes), which will enable you to have direct contact with the profession and its tasks. The studies will prepare you to work as a social worker, as a conscious, sensitive participant in social life, an observer and researcher, a person with a creative attitude, curious about new opportunities and ready for continuous development.

As a graduate, you will be prepared to work directly with foster families, in support centres and foundations. You can work in the broadly understood social welfare, non-governmental organisations, central and local government administration responsible for the implementation of social policy tasks.

Are you interested in human behaviour and the causes behind it? During studies at the Psychology degree programme you will learn about the psychological bases of behaviours, their biological and social determinants, and get to know the mechanisms that allow these behaviours to be explained.

 

What will you learn?

  •       First of all, you will gain knowledge in the field of general psychology, social psychology, psychology of human development, and psychopathology.
  •       In addition to that, you will gain knowledge in the field of complementary courses, such as: philosophy, sociology, biological basis of behaviour, neurobiology, logic, and psychiatry.
  •       What is more, you can individually choose courses related to new trends and directions in psychology (for example: psychology of the Internet, music or sports).

 

Not only theory, but also practice! That is why you will gain solid workshop preparing you to plan and conduct your own scientific research and the process of psychological diagnosis. You will be able to: recognise individual and social phenomena, as well as help others and plan psychological intervention.

After completing the second year of studies, you will follow two selected majors and take part in internships. 

Thanks to studies in psychology you will be able to understand human behaviour. You will also acquire the extremely valuable skill of helping others.
