Three weeks of scientific passion! Summing up the Vinci RELOADED Summer School.
The Vinci RELOADED Interdisciplinary International Silesian Summer School, hosted by USil Faculty of Science and Technology, has come to a close. It was a period of intense work—136 hours of active learning—which served as a wonderful shared experience between our Faculty’s scientists and 25 talented students from around the world, including France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Hungary.
The core of the programme was the students’ integration into the daily work of our research teams. Our guests placed their trust in us and came to Silesia to deepen their expertise in chosen research topics within the fields of computer science, chemistry, physics, materials engineering, and microscopy. For these three weeks, they became true members of our research groups.
Programme highlights included:
- a study visit to the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre in Kraków, where students explored cutting-edge beamlines and cryo-electron microscopy infrastructure,
- an intensive day at the SPIN-LAB Centre, featuring expert lectures and 5-hour hands-on workshops using advanced techniques like micro-CT, SEM-FIB, and TEM,
- specialised lectures by world-class experts and immersive Polish culture and language classes.
On Friday, 17 July, we held the closing seminar. All students presented their individual research projects, developed in collaboration with our Faculty’s research units. Each presentation was assessed by an examination board —everyone performed excellently and concluded their education by receiving an official certificate.
We thank all participants for their trust and our scientists for their incredible dedication. We believe this experience will serve us a booster for your future scientific careers!
Submitted by the Faculty of Science and Technology, the proposal of ‘VINCI RELOADED – Interdisciplinary International Silesian Summer School’ has been awarded funding of PLN 661,100.00 in the NAWA SPINAKER – Intensive International Education Programmes, and its main objective is to improve the quality of education for international students and to improve the attractiveness of studying at the University of Silesia.
