SGH Summer Doctoral School in Warsaw

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the SGH Summer Doctoral School on Contemporary Challenges in Politics, Business and the Economy, organized by the SGH Doctoral School.

The event will take place at the Warsaw School of Economics from July 8-12, 2024. The goal of the SGH Doctoral Summer School is to promote the idea of sustainable development in the economy.

The event will consist of seminars and workshops (a total of 30 didactic hours) addressing such issues and topics as:

Seminars:

  • Feminist foreign policy: issues and developments,
  • Discursive approaches and ethics of discourse analysis,
  • How do ideas shape politics and politicians?
  • Social policy responses to global crises,
  • What is the importance of public expectations and how to define them
  • Comparative political economy: From varieties of capitalism to models of growth,
  • Comparative political economy: Diverse theoretical approaches.

Workshop:

  • Narrative analysis: feminist and strategic narratives,
  • Feedback approach in policy,
  • Measuring expectations in social science research,
  • What is the importance of public expectations and how to measure them
  • Process tracing: A qualitative method for studying causal mechanisms,
  • Data collection for process tracing.

Seminars and workshops will be led by prominent and respected researchers, including:

  • Dr. Annika Bergman-Rosamond, University of Edinburgh,
  • Dr. Daniel Béland, McGill University,
  • Dr. Marek Naczyk, University of Oxford,
  • Elias Tsakas, Ph.D., Maastricht University.

The application deadline is June 10, 2024. Thanks to funding from the STER project of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), participation in the Doctoral Summer School is free of charge. However, participants must cover travel and accommodation costs.

Interested doctoral students are invited to fill out an online application form (available here). After an initial review, selected candidates will be asked to submit a doctoral research proposal outlining the subject of their planned research and the methods used. A wide range of topics from fields such as politics, economics or business are accepted.

The papers should be written in English and should be no longer than 5,000 characters (about 3 pages) including spaces. Each research proposal should include the following points:

  • The research problem that the candidate wants to address,
  • the theoretical and practical reasons for choosing a particular topic,
  • background of the problem in the literature – what gaps in scientific knowledge the candidate intends to fill with his research project,
    a preliminary set of research hypotheses,
  • optionally – a graphical model illustrating the variables included in the study, their relationships and research hypotheses,
  • research methods for testing the research hypotheses.
