Professor Maciej Szpunar an employee of the Faculty of Law and Administration of University of Silesia in Katowice has been re-elected as First Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in Luxembourg.

The Professor’s responsibilities will include organizing the work of the Advocates General, who support the work of the CJEU judges. The term of office is to run from 8 October 2024 to 6 October 2027.
Professor Maciej Szpunar holds degrees in law from the University of Silesia in Katowice and the College of Europe in Bruges. Before joining the CJEU, Professor Szpunar served as Undersecretary of State in the Polish Office of the Committee for European Integration (2008-09), then in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2010-13) as well as agent of the Polish Government in a large number of cases before the European Union judicature.
