Mariusz Wierzgoń

He is a graduate of the Biology programme at the University of Silesia’s Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection.

The best graduate of the academic year of 2016/2017.

The contractor in three projects, of which it is worth mentioning the project InfoRevita “System wspomagania rewitalizacji zwałowisk odpadów pogórniczych przy użyciu narzędzi geoinformatycznych” [TANGO1/268600/NCBR/2015] implemented as part of the TANGO project, co-funded by NCBiR and NCN. The participant in numerous scientific conferences, during which he presented papers or posters incl.: Conference of Young Researchers of Mountain and Polar Ecosystems with paper: Wierzgoń M., Rostański A. Udział mszaków w strukturze tundry mszysto – porostowej (Północno – Wschodnia Islandia) (Karpacz, Polska); IceBio2015 – Líffræðiráðstefnan 2015, poster: Wierzgoń M., Wąsowicz P. Species from genus Heracleum (Apiaceae) in Akureyri (N Iceland): distribution, main sources of spread and identification of priority areas for eradication (Reykjavik, Island). The co-author of scientific publications and speaker during incl.: numerous events popularising science such as: Biologists Night, Science Festival or Fascination of Plants Day, as well as Open Scientific Seminaries of Interdisciplinary Naturalist Club “Planeta”. The member of Faculty’s Council of the Student Government (2014-2016), during the academic year of 2015-2016 the president of FCSG, and during academic year of 2015-2016 the delegate to University Council of the Student Government. Since 2013 a member of Interdisciplinary Naturalist Club “Planeta”, in the years 2015-2017 the president of said club. Since 2015 Mariusz Wierzgoń is also a member of Polish Botanical Society, Silesian branch in Katowice. Since 2005 he is a member of volunteer fire department in Mikołów-Kamionka, Since 2016 a member of audit committee OSP Kamionka. In 2009 he entered a Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society, branch in Mikołów (in 2014-2017 secretary of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society, branch in Mikołów, since 2017 a member of the Board of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society, branch in Mikołów). He was awarded a Rector of the University of Silesia’s honour 2016 edition, for initiating and supporting the student life, scientific and popular science activity, and his social activity for local community, the “Za wysługę X lat” in the Volunteer Fire Department (2016) and the “Strażank wzorowy” badge (2017), as well as the Diploma of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society branch in Mikołów (2017).
