On the second Saturday of November an integration meeting took place, as a part of the project “Come2US – professionalization and centralization of support of the foreign employees of the University of Silesia in Katowice”.
Participants of the excursion had the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Silesia by visiting the Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry. They got to know how a steam engine works, they could see the actual place of work of the miners from the break of XVIII and XIX century, and canoed on the river flowing 40 meters underground.
The Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry is the only underground tourist route that allows for sightseeing the remnants of the actual silver mine. In July 2017 the Silesian monument has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is also one of the four monuments of the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Province.
After visiting the Silver Mine the employees had the opportunity to see The Liberation Mound in Piekary Śląskie. The mound was built between1932 and 1937 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Polish victory under Vienna and the 15th anniversary of the incorporation of Silesia into Poland.
After the trip the participants could meet each other better at the dinner in the restaurant specialized in Polish cuisine.
Participants who took part in the excursion are employees of the University from varius countries: Czech, Ukraine, Greece, Croatia, France, Italy, Russia, Germany, Vietnam, India, Canada and Hungary.
