Central European Historical Studies

The degree programme is a joint initiative of the universities in Ostrava, Banská Bystrica and University of Silesia in Katowice. It enables students to study in three partner countries.

languages of instruction: Polish, Czech, Slovak

The joint Central European Historical Studies are to prepare a historian who is well familiar with the history of this region of Europe as well as the professional techniques of historians specialised in the history of Czechia, Poland and Slovakia.

The historical studies carried out at all universities of Czechia, Poland and Slovakia are closed within the “state” or “national” borders. The history taught there very rarely refers to the neighbouring countries. We assume that there is a significant group of BA graduates from the broadly understood Polish-Czech-Slovak borderland who will be interested in deepening their knowledge and studying not only in their own country, but also abroad.

international studies

Thanks to the cooperation between scholars in three partner countries, the participant can get to know the research output enabling them to study not only the history of Central European countries and nations, but also their mutual political, economic, social and cultural relations, as well as the formation and specific nature of borderlands. Knowledge of the past of Central Europe will be useful e.g. for sociologists, philologists and graduates of other vocational studies.

2ND CYCLE STUDIES

The offer of international studies is mainly addressed to the graduates of 1st cycle historical studies who want to continue their historical education, but also to graduates of other degree programmes in humanities or social sciences, who wish to expand their professional competencies.

The studies are conducted onsite only.
