Spanish Studies
A graduate of Spanish Studies has a very good knowledge of Spanish and another Romance language or English as well as comprehensive knowledge of Spanish cultural area, including literature, culture and history. This makes him/her better understand the sources of currently observed linguistic and cultural phenomena and skillfully interpret them. Moreover, awareness of the existence of cultural differences and the threats resulting from their incorrect interpretation allows him/her to properly recognise communication disruptions and the otherness of the interlocutor at the pragmatic and cultural level.
Theoretical knowledge in the field of linguistics acquired during studies, including the structure and functioning of language, pragmatic mechanisms of communication and discourse, gives a Spanish Studies graduate a practical basis for independently developing linguistic, translation and communication competencies not only in the field of the studied language, but also in other foreign languages, as well as – in the future – for teaching the specialised language at the basic and intermediate levels.
Knowledge of issues in the field of literary studies not only makes him/her sensitive to the diversity of human experiences and the discourses that describe them, but also allows him/her to actively participate in initiatives aimed at promoting and disseminating the culture of the French language area.
