“Freedom of research” results

125 scientists obtained funding for research activity in the first edition of “Freedom of research” call for proposals under Research Excellence Initiative. The Rector’s decision was based on the evaluation of submitted applications, which was conducted by members of the Team for Evaluation and Scientific Board of Research Excellence Initiative. The total amount of funding was PLN 1,021,08.

The following types of activities will be co-financed: research and consultation trips, research visits, field studies, preparation of works musical and artistic works, as well as purchase of materials and reagents necessary for conducting own research. The funding also covered the costs of translating and proofreading texts intended for publication in high-ranking journals.

Scientists representing all scientific disciplines at the University of Silesia submitted applications in the call for proposals. Applications in 21 disciplines were co-financed with the amount of PLN 1,000 – PLN 20,000, including almost 14% in biological sciences, more than 11% in materials engineering, and almost 10% in psychology.

In the field of scientific and research activities, 91% individuals declared publication of research results, whereas 23% declared establishing international scientific cooperation. Moreover, 5 researchers undertook to submit applications in an international ERC grant competition as an additional result of activity.

The website of Research Excellence Initiative will publish articles, interviews and information on the effects of activities co-financed under this call for proposals.
